The holidays are upon us, and for my holiday outfit this year I’m going for merry and bright. I know a lot of people shop for a new holiday outfit, but this year I decided to forgo shopping (I’ve done a lot of that lately) I pulled this outfit together from my favorite bold and bright pieces. (My only bold and bright pieces?)
Military Jacket With a Mini Dress
A military jacket has been my staple outerwear for fall and spring for years now. I bought my first one in Amsterdam years ago (I remember that at the time people were already wearing them in Europe, but they were really hard to find in the US). But in a moment of “I need to purge my closet of old stuff” last summer, I donated it. I regretted it almost immediately as I started seeing stylish moms at the playground looking stylish and happy in their own military jackets. And since then I had been on a hunt to replace it.
How I Wear My Blush Pants
I’m in love with these blush pants (or let’s be honest, they are actually pink). I love the dusty rose color, and the loose, baggy fit. Wearing pink pants when you are not a four year old girl any more almost feels rebellious. And since I’m someone who is completely devoted to her skinny jeans (any color), I actually surprised even myself how much I enjoy wearing baggy pants.
Mixed Media
Play up your minimalist wardrobe by layering textures and mixing patterns. Texture adds interest without having to add more pieces to your outfit. I love how the stripes and salt-and-pepper texture of the coat work together in an unexpected way. I’m a big fan of stripes and find them super versatile, and a perfect fit for the blacks, whites and greys in my minimalist closet. So coming up with new ways to wear stripes is always exciting to me.
Can we also talk about transitional shoes? It’s so hard to find shoes for transitional weather. There is definitely a lack of footwear out there that sits between boots and sandals, and works in the rain. Until I found the shoes I’m wearing in this post, I had a very difficult time dressing for rainy days. I either wore flats, which didn’t do much for me in the rain, or boots, which kind of got old after months of wearing boots during the winter anyways. So I’m happy to finally have found casual heels to wear with jeans.
