There’s something so chic about a pink coat. And I think I’m not the only one who feels that way. I see pink moto jackets, pink trench coats, pink wool winter coats and anything in between. And I want them all! Pink has almost become the new black.
Pink and blush have gotten under my skin (I’m in love with my cashmere blush sweater), and I’ve wonder what the reason is. I think most of us, or at least the “us” who tend to wear a lot of neutrals, have been starved for color. And this season’s particular shade of pink is a safe neutral that works well with other neutrals.
So I’ve embraced the blush trend wholeheartedly and love styling my pink and blush pieces with this season’s other great trend – ripped jeans.
I’m always looking for new ways to layer for winter. One of my new favorite style hacks is to layer on two jackets. Here I’ve taken two coats, from two different seasons, and paired them for a casual winter style. Underneath, I’m wearing a cotton army green jacket, and I’ve topped it off with a wool army green coat. It’s a more stylish version of the three-seasons-in-one jackets popular with the outdoorsy types.
To complete the casual, laid back look, I’m wearing double-gore suede booties. They are super easy on a lazy day and weekend, because they just pull on, and there are no laces to get in the way. And I’ve completed the outfit with rolled-up boyfriend jeans.
I’ve had my eye on getting a pair of pink sneakers since the spring. I saw a stylist pair a black suite jacket and baggy black pants with a pair of pale pink sneakers. I was hooked, but getting a pair proved to be difficult. No store I checked online had a pair, or at least not in the color I wanted (wanted this particular blush-pink shade), or they didn’t have them in my size, or they were out of my price range (I found a pair for $400!).
But things have improved since then. Now almost every online retailer sells pink sneakers. I was able to find the pair I’m wearing at Zara. What I particularly like about this pair, is that the sole is the same color as the upper of the sneaker. And this soft shade of pink is exactly what I was looking for. It’s neutral enough to pair with most of the colors in my closet, such as greys, blacks and any shade of jeans.
My favorite pink sneakers out there right now:
Zara (this is the exact style I’m wearing, and also on sale!); a very similar pair from Guess; an all-over pink ones like mine, but with a platform sole from ASOS and another pair from ASOS (but without a platform) here; a cute pom-pom version from Sam Edelman; some soft blush options from Steve Madden and Marc Fisher; and this really cool Adidas pair that is selling out everywhere.
I live in the Northeast, so I spend half the year in the cold. So I have a few cold weather staples that help me get though winter. A warm hat is essential. During the winter I really don’t care what my hair looks like. Keeping warm is more important to me, so I need my warm hat. I also have a selection of parkas that I’ve collected over the years: two down ones and one lined with fur (the one in this post). And mastering the art of layering is also essential.
Here I’ve layered a t-shirt, with a checkered shirt, with a cashmere sweater, with a parka, and topped it off with a chunky hat.
Throwing a wool poncho over a chunky sweater is a chic way to keep warm during cold days. I’m a big fan of layering. First, you can create new looks out of things you have in your closet anyways, and second, I love to pay with textures.
