Waterproof: Dressing for cold, wet weather

Dressing for wet and cold weather has usually been a challenge for me. For one thing, I resisted getting rain boots for a very long time because I didn’t find them stylish enough. Plus, I don’t like rain jackets. So, staying dry and warm is not always easy for me.

But now I have a new-found love and respect for rain boots. After I moved to New England, having rain boots became a necessity. My favorite rain-proof outfit now is a hooded field jacket (for wet spring and fall days) or a hooded wool coat for those cold and wet winter days, plus my trusty Hunter boots. I found a navy pair with a matte finish that I love. And they pair perfectly with my (somewhat water-resistant) navy hooded wool coat from J. Crew. And to keep my leather shoulder bag dry, I make sure to put it under my coat to hide it from the rain.
