A military jacket has been my staple outerwear for fall and spring for years now. I bought my first one in Amsterdam years ago (I remember that at the time people were already wearing them in Europe, but they were really hard to find in the US). But in a moment of “I need to purge my closet of old stuff” last summer, I donated it. I regretted it almost immediately as I started seeing stylish moms at the playground looking stylish and happy in their own military jackets. And since then I had been on a hunt to replace it.
Transitional Layering
Layering is my way of coping with transitional weather style. I’ve always found dressing for transitional spring weather or transitional fall weather more difficult than dressing for weather that’s definitely hot or unmistakably cold. But the one upside of transitional weather is that it lets me play with layers. And I think layers are very chic. Layered looks let me combine the same old pieces in a new way and give me a completely different look.
This casual spring look combines two of my favorite staple pieces – a leather jacket and a fur vest, that up until now I’ve always worn separately. Worn together, both pieces take on a new meaning and become almost unrecognizable. It’s a really chic way to freshen up a transitional spring look without having to buy anything new. Because why buy anything new when, less is more and minimal is chic.
