Getting Dressed Up In Cold Weather

grey wool coat street styleWhen you live in the Northeast, you have to learn tricks to look dressed up in cold weather. A lot of major holidays (when you want to look nice) happen when it’s cold outside, so getting dressed for New Year’s (or even Valentine’s Day) is not an easy feat. You need to find a way to look dressed up while still keeping warm. You can’t simply throw on a cute dress and a pair of heels because you’ll end up being super cold and that will spoil your whole evening. That’s where layering and a great coat come in.

dressed cold weather dressy looks for winter street style

After many, many years of trying different options, I’ve come up with a fail-safe formula to look good during the holidays when it’s cold outside. I usually dress in skinny jeans and a nice sweater (whatever is in style). But the most important piece is the coat. To look dressed up in cold weather, you need a dressy coat.

I love this grey wool coat. It’s my favorite color, but more importantly, it has great volume and a great shape. It has a beautiful shawl collar and drapes nicely around the body. The coat is wool, so it will keep me warm. And I make sure to wear layers. That way I can take some off it necessary.

Accessories matter too. If the weather permits, I go for heels. Or I just carry them in a bag (if I’m going somewhere where I can change into them). Otherwise, I’d put on a pair of nice boots.
